Our mission is to see the scriptures made available through Bible translation to all peoples in the language they know best. When members of every people group in the world are worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ, with access to the Bible in their own language, our reason for existence will cease.
At the beginning of this millennium, based on the activity then, the time frame for our mission to be achieved was 2150. Another 150 years! Totally unacceptable! So in 1999 the following was adopted: We embrace the vision that by the year 2025 a Bible translation will be in progress for every people group that needs one. Based on current activity this will happen around 2040. Why the positive change? One major reason is partnering. This is not just Wycliffe’s vision now; it is rapidly becoming that of the church worldwide.
There are many ways to participate in the Bible translation movement. It needs linguists, literacy workers, computer specialists, accountants, managers, teachers and a myriad of other roles – short term and long term. We are pleased to serve the Baptist churches of New Zealand as they take their place in this rising challenge to ensure everyone has access to the Word of God in their ‘heart’ language.
